Mike Hind – The Story So Far

Mike picked up his first ukulele as a child of 41, having spent many years performing in many different guises; in theatre, comedy and in popular local bands. He is a funny, irreverent & spontaneous Bermudian solo artist who performs weekly throughout the summer months all over the island, entertaining the crowds with an eclectic range of songs, covers and originals, from classic romance crooned in honeyed tones to the catchiest pop tunes. He’s been known to burst into song at a moment’s notice… sometimes in the middle of another song. His repartee of covers is enormous, often asking for - and being able to deliver! - audience requests. Mike’s original songs are filled with a depth of feeling and emotion that manage to touch the souls and capture memories from the widest of audiences; whereas his covers often demand audience participation. He creates a deep rapport with the audience, evidence of his years of performing, creating a warmth and relaxation that stays with the audience and prompts them to join in the banter. He released his first EP ‘This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things’ which was funded by donations through a crowd funding website in 2013. His second album was released early in 2016 – ‘Plan E’ (because plans A, B, C & D didn’t work!) He first toured the UK in February 2015, meeting up with the likes of Phil Doleman, The Mersey Belles, Dead Man’s Uke, Feckless & Fuddle, Ben Rouse and Zoë Bestel, but has since returned a few more times tour the length of the country, including the Variety Tour: “Magic, Music & Mayhem with Feckless & Fuddle & Dead Man’s Uke”. He has performed at various Big House events, sharing the weekend with 300 ukulele players and enthusiasts and headlined at festivals such as the Grand Southern Ukulele Festivals, alongside international acts Victoria Vox and Aldrine Guerrero, and a headline spot at the first Ukulele Festival of Scotland with Zoë Bestel and James Hill, and had been asked to return as a headliner next year!

He has also performed internationally with top ukulele acts such as Narciso “Seeso” Lobo, The Flea Bitten Dawgs, Jion Jugo, Krabbers and The Hedge Inspectors, Francesco Albertazzi, Danielle Ate The Sandwich, Heidi Svedberg and Daniel Ward, Craig Chee and Sarah Maisel, Jim D'Ville, Manitoba Hal, Julia Nunes, Tricity Vogue, Li'l Rev, Pete Moss, Ukulele Uff and The Lonesome Dave Trio and once had an amazing jam at the NAMM show in Los Angeles with Gerald Ross, Ken Middleton, Ukulele Bartt and Jason Arimoto and friends!

His next album, “Misspent Adulthood” will be out in 2017… or whenever he finishes writing it.
